If You Like Pina Colada’s…Pineapple and Coconut Milk Mask

Do you love pina colada’s?  (And getting lost in the rain….I  I love pina colada’s, even the mere thought of them makes me think of a tropical paradise.

Well, it has been no tropical paradise here this summer, not that Maine is ever tropical, or paradise for that matter.  It has been cool and rainy and blah!  I don’t know where you are, but if you have a case of the summer doldrums, here is a little something that I have come up with to sweep you into a tropical dream.

Pineapple and Coconut Milk Face Mask–it is part peel and part moisture drench!

This mask is perfect for those with sensitive skin, mature skin, acne prone skin, and skin that has had a little too much sun.  (Wear your sun screen!)

You can use either fresh pineapple, or canned pineapple that has been well drained.  I prefer fresh, as protein dissolving, exfoliating enzyme, bromelain is likely to be far more potent.  You will also need a can of coconut milk, which you can find in the Asian section of your grocery store, and an egg white, or some oatmeal as a binder.  You want the full fat kind, not the lite.

Toss about 1/4 cup of pineapple into your food processor, or blender, and add 3 to 4 tablespoons of coconut milk.  Process until smooth, then add the egg white, or a small handful of organic oatmeal, or both, if you prefer.  You can also add 2 tablespoons of honey, if you like.  Process all of this until you have a consistency and texture that you like.

Put, or smear, this onto your face and go about your business, or lay down for a bit and listen to some tropical music.  Let the mask do work it’s wonders for about 30 minutes.  Make sure you take a lot of deep, relaxing breaths, letting that lovely fragrance take you away…  Rinse with warm water, and you should have super soft, gorgeous skin.

Aside from the exfoliating enzyme, bromelain, in the pineapple, you have the fatty acid rich coconut milk, which is a natural anti-septic, perfect for acne prone skin.  Coconut milk also has a very high levels of phenolic anti-oxidants, which are great for all skin types.

This terrific, “Take me away” mask has many miracle producing properties, without being harsh or drying.   I hope that you love it!  Let me know.. Aloha!
